The DJs: Personable, never tacky

Since our founding in 1989, BIG FUN Disc Jockeys has operated exclusively with friendly, non‑tacky DJs. We are all experienced professionals that provide guidance without being bossy, MC services without being talkative, and a memorable party without being cliché.

Stefano Bortolin

Born and raised on the Peninsula, Stefano’s knowledge of the local scene is vast. In addition to working events and parties with BIG FUN, he leverages his charismatic personality as a volunteer auctioneer and MC at local school fund raisers. When not DJ’ing (or working his day job as a sales manager), Stefano enjoys spending time with his family, coaching youth sports, and enjoying a glass of good wine. He attended St. Francis High School, College of San Mateo, and completed 4 years service in the U.S. Air Force.

Paul Burchfield

An East Bay native and San José State University graduate, Paul grew up playing the trumpet. More recently, he’s been working on learning the guitar. When his daughter was young, he learned tap dancing with her, so they would have a shared interest. Soon thereafter, he began editing and remixing music for the local dance studio and working as a DJ with BIG FUN. Outside of work and DJ’ing, Paul loves to cook (we hear his homemade beef jerky is excellent). A fun fact about Paul: he once appeared in a special on The History Channel.

Mike Calpito

Mike is a classically trained pianist, self-taught guitarist, and music producer and songwriter. His songs and compositions can be heard on various TV shows on Fox, MTV, VH1, and CBS. Mike is also an urban street dancer and choreographer. He was a top 50 contestant for Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance, Season 1” and now teaches hip hop to kids, teens, and adults. In his free time, Mike enjoys going out to dance salsa and bachata. He started his DJ path spinning at SF hotspots like Sloane, The Cellar, and Mighty.

Stephanie de Jesus

Stephanie is a born and bred Bay Area native, including earning a degree in Economics from the University of San Francisco. She works by day in the real estate field but considers her “real” job shuttling around her 8-year old twin boys to their various activities. Stephanie loves all genres of music. Growing up, she learned ballet and tap and was always begging her instructors to choreograph dances to her favorite pop songs. Stephanie also used to watch way too much MTV... back when they actually played music videos.

Brad Kallai

Born and raised in Southern California, Brad upgraded to the Bay Area 16 years ago. His day job is as a Project Manager at Apple. He started mixing records in 1997 as traditional vinyl DJ, excelling at scratching, sampling, and looping. When Brad is not DJ’ing or working at the Silicon Valley tech giant, he enjoys walking his dog and spending time with his wife and his objectively cute 2 year old daughter. Brad loves all things creative, including painting and drawing.

Henry S. Kim

Henry’s previous career as a web application developer included 16 years at Apple and 8 years at National Semiconductor, Synopsys, and others. As a DJ, he brings skills at beat matching and live mixing. Henry is married with two kids. Remarkably, he can play the saxophone, keyboards, violin, trumpet, drums, and probably some other instruments we don’t know about. Henry has also done theatrical sound design for TheatreWorks and Mountain View’s Center for Performing Arts. He’s a graduate of Stanford University in Electrical Engineering.

Ting Kung

Ting is a hardware design engineer and has a degree in Electrical Engineering from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. When not working at his day job or DJ’ing on weekends, Ting enjoys travelling to new places and trying exotic foods with his wife. During the winter, you will find him snowboarding in Tahoe. Any other time of the year, you might spot him speeding around the local go-kart track or jumping sand dunes on an ATV. Having moved from Taiwan to California in middle school, Ting is fluent in both Mandarin and English.

Daniel McFarren

A freelance sound designer experienced in sound staging and lighting, Daniel is a graduate of Cogswell Polytechnical College with his degree in Digital Audio Technology. He loves Beethoven’s 5th Symphony because of its technical sophistication coupled with its sweetness of sound (but don’t worry, he won’t try to put that into the mix at your event). Dan enjoys hiking, camping, snowboarding, and creating electronic dance music in his home studio.

Woody Miraglia

With a huge personal music collection, Woody’s background includes running a music store and acting in musical theater. When he isn’t DJ’ing or working his day job at a small investment capital company, he can be found teeing it up on Bay Area golf courses or navigating technical singletrack on his mountain bike. Woody is also BIG FUN’s music librarian, and he’s always looking out for the next big song or remix to put in our collection. He graduated with degrees in Economics and Communication from Stanford University.

Quang Nguyen

Currently studying electrical engineering and computer science, Quang spends his free time racing cars (legally!), competing at powerlifting meets, diving for abalone, and fishing in the ocean. When he’s not seeking the next big adrenaline rush, his main passion is music. He began his DJing career spinning at local clubs and events. Quang frequently is guest featured on different radio stations, and he actively volunteers his time teaching others how to mix and DJ. Quang used to teach at driving school, so he’s a better parallel parker than you are.
